荷蘭當代畫家馬汀˙維哈克(Maarten Verhaak)，1953年生於荷蘭Breda，現居阿姆斯特丹。1976年畢業於荷蘭Tilburg視覺藝術教育學院，並獲荷蘭教育部獎學金赴義大利佛羅斯及波蘭華沙美術學院進修，作品廣為國家現代美術館、銀行、市政府、基金會、法院及私人收藏。

維哈克70年代在荷蘭、義大利及波瀾就學期間，接受深厚的古典繪畫訓練，80年代末期，他開始進入超寫實主義的創作風格，何以有如此改變？維哈克說：「我在尋求一個將外在世界融入到作品創作的方法」，他開始描寫都會生活與平凡事物，一系列以公路為主題的創作。

維哈克畫汽車，閃亮的車身與拋光發亮的金屬細節，也畫公路旁新建的辦公大樓、停車場、加油站等都會景觀，他經常選擇一些平凡的題材，卻以特殊的取景構圖，創造出一種奇特的孤獨感與具有穿透力的寧靜，將觀者的視線導引到平時不太留意的細節，如電影停格般的專注凝視，這些細節正是一切景物最原始的面貌，一種毫無掩飾的存在事實。

速度，讓我們看不到真實。公路縮短城鄉距離，也模糊了真實的存在。坐在車中，看不清呼嘯而過車外景觀，倚在天橋，無法意識橋下過往的車輛的色澤或光影。而維哈克選擇以緩慢徒步的方式與「外在世界」接觸，在人們很少佇足的公路邊，細看環境的動靜變化。

這次展覽是維哈克首次在台北展出，共展出油畫作品4件、紙上作品18件。

SOLO EXHIBITION MAARTEN VERHAAK, METAPHYSICS IN METALLIC LUSTER

From February 11 to March 4, 2012 gallery ArtDoor is showing paintings of the Dutch painter Maarten Verhaak.

Maarten Verhaak (1953) lives and works in Amsterdam. He graduated from the Academy of Visual Arts in Tilburg, Holland and obtained scholarships from the Ministry of Education for study in Florence, Italy (1976-1977) and Warsaw, Poland (1978-1979).

His paintings have been collected by musea, municipalities, private companies and collectors.

Maarten Verhaak gained attention in the 1980’s with his hyperrealistic paintings of cars. At this exhibition the painter is showing acrylics on paper and oil paintings. Verhaak paints urban scenes like gas stations, office buildings, parking lots and other ordinary locations in the city environment. His scenes are painted with great attention to detail, composition and color nuances. Four stunning oil paintings of gleaming cars complement this exhibition. They are painted so realistic that at first glance, you think you are looking at a photograph.

The main focus of artist Maarten Verhaak is to paint images of our modern day reality of which urban scenes, cars and the freeway and its surroundings are an integral part. Through his art the painter seeks to show the reality of our rapidly changing environment.
