“Heart to Soul – Taiwan and Spanish Print Exchange Exhibition” is co-organized by the International Print Center for the College of Arts at the National Taiwan Normal University and Spanish print artists to exchange and communicate the creative ideas of both nations through the collective “hearts and souls.” Seven professional print artists are invited from each country to participate in this festive event, featuring one month of exhibition across both Taiwan and Spain for a total of two months. The exhibits on display feature the various printmaking techniques, including silkscreen, intaglio and relief, and lithography, to not only demonstrate the distinctive styles of each artist but also provide a more in-depth understanding and introduction to the art of printmaking in Taiwan and Spain.
Among the Spanish artists, Gema Clement Camacho uses photosensitive resin plates to reproduce the oceanic scenes focusing on the water waves and colorful boats with its reflections; Rita Del Rio Rodriguez uses woodcut and etching to convey the satirical fantasy of the fragile world; Fernando Evangelio Rodríguez uses plywood and relief plates to represent the close relationship between people; Pilar Garcia Abril uses relief woodcut and acrylic plates to reproduce the microscopic cross-section details of the orchid; Circus of Horrors is Manuel Fernando Mancera Martínez’s digital print depicting a fictional and disturbing atmosphere; Manuel Manzorro Pérez is adept at using the copperplate aquatint and lithography prints to produce the beauty and sorrow from the field of his youth; and Chou Ming-Yi’s silkscreen print would showcase his mind and spirit on an abstract level.
For the Taiwanese artists, Liao Hsiou-Ping uses silkscreen prints to emote the eternally natural order and joyous traditional festivals hidden behind the modern life; Chung You-Hui combines the grass and leaf symbols as a projection of his own consciousness to reflect the tough endless cycles of life; Lin Hsueh-Ching adopts the implicit metaphor, contrastive observation, and virtual reality through the use of colored PS lithography to lay down her criticism and care for the continuation of life and death within time and space; Shen Jin-Yuan recreates the day in February using intaglio and relief paper printing plates; Pan Meng-Yao uses the interesting textures and freedom of printing to express a state of relief from modern day pressures as a breakthrough of the framework and plate-making in print art; Kao Chun-Ying uses the intaglio prints to convey her own fragments of life as an emotional reflection of the environment and past events; and Lee Shu-Chuan uses the relief and collage prints to reflect her feelings for life in music, art, love, and bullfighting.
