When I came to Taiwan, I was amazed to find such an interesting, excellent and surprising country. I found here sophisticated cuisine, highly ambitious architecture, amazing landscape and very friendly and patient people. Passing the crowded night markets through the smell of seafood and the sounds of good-humoured haggling, I felt as I had arrived in an Oriental fairy tale.
All country has a well-developed infrastructure. All cities are connected by roads, tunnels, bridges. People easily can travel in another part of the island by car, bus, train or even high-speed train.
In my first trip to the east cost of Taiwan, I get acquainted with some indigenous people and had learned more about Taiwan history, and aborigine’s culture. I had learned that first name of Taiwan was “Formosa” – meaning “A Beautiful Island” and indigenous people have many different tribes (more than 10 in fact).
As any people they have their history, their language and their culture. One of tribes had had the facial tattoo for woman, which they made after successfully attaining maturity. The technical and information progress, which occurred in Taiwan, could not affect the simple structure of their lifestyle and the culture of facial tattoo gradually disappeared. This is life, and the life is in the constant motion.
All these thoughts I wanted to transmit in my picture “Formosa Fantasy”.
