ARTISTS STATEMENT
Born in 1984, Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
-
Lin Ching-Fang began his artistic journey at an early age, exploring drawing in kindergarten and receiving formal training in sketching and watercolor in elementary school. He later attended an art-focused high school, earned a BFA from the Department of Fine Arts at National Chiayi University, and completed his MFA in Plastic Arts at Tainan National University of the Arts. During his university years, his participation in artist residencies sparked a profound sense of creative fulfillment and laid the foundation for his sustained commitment to artmaking. Lin’s practice centers on themes of local culture and personal identity within geopolitical contexts. His works often incorporate humor and parody, materialized through the deliberate tension and fusion of diverse media. Working across painting, mixed media, and sculpturally shaped formats, he creates a distinctive visual language that challenges conventional boundaries.
-
Between 2006 and 2012, Lin focused on expanding the possibilities of two-dimensional art through material experimentation. Since 2014, he has continued to develop a vibrant mixed-media approach using acrylics, most notably in his ongoing Ang-á-phiau series — a body of work that reflects his interest in popular culture and visual subversion. In addition to his art practice, Lin has also gained professional experience in woodworking, event and banquet design, and decorative surface finishing. These interdisciplinary skills continue to inform and enrich his creative process today.
