The eight Lucky Symbols are very common Buddhist symbols - the Golden Fish, the Conch Shell, the Golden Wheel, the Parasol, the Lotus flower, the Treasure Vase, the Eternal Knot and the Victory Banner. These eight lucky symbols can be seen as decoration and design on house wall paintings or even as a decoration on everyday objects like cupboards, cups and so on.
These simple but significant symbols have greater meaning and stories behind them. These eight lucky symbols represent the Buddha.
The Golden fish represents the eyes of the Buddha. Fish are meant to have the clarity that can see through even the muddiest of water and have the clarity to see the depth and the width of the sea of suffering and samsara.
As this monk puts on his eye fold and rides on the golden fish into the sea of samsara, we can question- do we have such blind faith? Do we depend too much on the Buddha and his sight, do we want to have only faith, or are we already dependent or are we happy to be riding the golden fish.
