Yoo sun-tai
While working in Paris for years, Yoo (1967~) developed his now well-known style of three-dimensional painting. Yoo is obsessed with objects such as book, typewriter, ladder, clock, bicycling man, bronze, apple, and other items. He takes such items as a means of metaphors of life elements which meanings depend on personal imagination or interpretation. So, his painting looks like some surreal with meditative and poetic sense.
In his painting, he also uses the Korean letter as a kind of metaphoric language to give his painting some texture as well as some meaning. After completion of painting, he writes Korean letters (means ‘words’ in English) over the whole canvas. The objects in his painting interact each other through these ‘words’ and proliferates the depth of reading or interpretation depending on viewer's personality.
Such a uniqueness of his painting gets good reputation from the public as well as critics. His works have been introduced by prestigious auctions such as Hong Kong Christie, New York Christie, Hong Kong Sale and have achieved international reputation.
