Rob Bouwman (Woerden ,1981) has been nominated many times for the Royal Prize for Painting in the Netherlands. In 2015 he was able to receive a special work grant from the Mondriaan Fund as a young talent to further develop his work. His work is in the collection of the Dutch Ministry of Internal and Foreign Affairs as in various corporate and private collections in Europe and the USA. His most recent exhibition at Sebastian Fath Contemporary in Mannheim (DE) was a resounding success. Out of 25 works, 20 were immediately sold to several important pritaxe collections. Next to that the largest local newspaper Die Rheinpfalz wrote a laudatory article under the title; Im Wunderland. He studied at the Frank Mohr Institute, a Masters program in the Netherlands and did several exchanges at Hunter College in New York City. It is from there where he developed his work and his taste for painting and Contemporary Abstraction.

The works of Rob Bouwman consist of translucent patterns painted in color with oil paint on thick sheets of paper. The patterns consist of various painterly actions based on the imagination of a single crystallized paint stroke. The paint stroke as an image and as an action has been the starting point of his work for many years. His images create a tension between atmospheric impressions of light and the spatial illusion produced solely by the material nature of translucent colors and patterns on a clear surface. While our way of seeing becomes increasingly rushed and influenced by the use of the many digital media around us, painting demands something different. Another concept of temporality, a concept of being and duration. A concept that Bouwman represents through his abstract imagery, and one can wonder if that first momentary glance at the work is the right one.
