Azusa Nozawa draws and compose a dozing girl in a spectrum of pastels. The artist traces within her childhood memories and drawing hands are moved in a prayer-like motion into the canvas.

The figure drawn by Nozawa's reminds us of the face of Christ on the cloth held by Saint Veronica. Saint Veronica watched over Christ, who carried the cross and climbed the hill of Golgotha to atone for the sins of all mankind. The story of Christ’s suffering and Saint Veronica’s longing for Christ was transcribed into the cloth as she wipes his sweat. To this day, the Holy face lives on.

In the same way, Nozawa's girl depicts herself that has been dug out from her childhood, and the story of her from childhood to adulthood trapped in her memory. Furthermore, the contemplation of the artist from her loving memories are overflowing. The girl has peppermint and pink eyes filled with particles of white light, and her hair flutters in the wind of light, enchanting us. Tpure white lines carved into the screen are the result of Nozawa’s unique characteristic masking technique, which emphasizes the multi-layered nature while separating the glittering space, foreshadowing the further development of the story.

The girl who is the main character of her story sometimes has multiple faces, and her wavering sensibility is expressed and sublimated into her memories.

Like in the history of art, the portraits of Christ have receptively drawn following by Veronica's Holy face cloth as a religious symbol of his story. Today as facing the chronicle of as an individual, thru the keen eyes of what is to foresee, what I draw is to hope to resemble a new form of a prayer as one.
