Laura Gurton is a multimedia artist based in western Massachusetts. She attended Philadelphia College of Art, the School of Visual Arts, Parsons School of Design, and the Brooklyn Museum School; she is known for her singular style and cross- medium experimentation.
Gurton is inspired by life on the smallest cellular level. She creates her abstract paintings with oils and alkyds in a self-invented color blending technique. This refined process allows her to render the most microscopic forms of life on a phenomenal scale. These paintings are then photographed and digital edited to enhance symmetry and mathematical patterns. Finally, each print is embedded with precisely placed Austrian crystal. These works are a dazzling culmination of traditional and modern techniques, two- dimensions and three-dimensions, science and whimsy.
