Born in 1973, in Hungary. Tibor Simon-Mazula works intuitively with noteworthy attention to the physical and tactile aspects of painting. Simon-Mazula draws upon his background in mathematics, filmmaking, and cinematography to create dream-like scenes. His oil paintings incorporate wide-ranging materials such as bone ash, marble dust, and alum.
Simon-Mazula left Europe in 2008. After two years in Dubai, his fascination with the Bay Area Figurative Movement led him to California to pursue his MFA in painting. Simon-Mazula has exhibited at the Marin Museum of Contemporary Art and in the White Walls Gallery in San Francisco alongside the works of M.C. Escher and Don Ed Hardy. In 2013 he was named “Emerging Artist” at the Academy of Art University. As a winner of the 2015 Bombay Sapphire Artisan Series Competition, Simon-Mazula’s work was featured at SCOPE Miami Beach. In 2016, his art was on display at DAX Gallery in Costa Mesa next to the works of Keith Haring. In 2018 his paintings were shown in the Florida State University Museum of Fine Arts. On top of his numerous accolades, his works have been published in magazines and books, such as American Art Collector, Wide Walls, and Art Reveal Magazine.
Through painting, Simon-Mazula wishes to understand and explore the recurrence and development of elements of contemporary life. In 2019, he published his first fine arts book, which includes—besides 80 paintings—essays from American and Hungarian artists, writers, musicians, and Simon-Mazula wrote specifically for the book.
Simon-Mazula now lives in Budapest with his wife Diana, his muse.
