Chrisna Fernand

Chrisna Fernand (b. 1993) is a multidisciplinary artist based in Yogyakarta. His artistic practice includes painting, comics, installations, graphic design, performance art, video art, poetry, and music. Chrisna studied fine art at the Indonesian Art Institute (ISI) Yogyakarta. Since 2012, he has been heavily involved in the establishment of various collectives, platforms, art programs, workshops, and book publishing.
Chrisna skilfully inserts satire, sarcasm and dark humor into his figurative paintings that are heavily influenced by popular culture. He first entices viewers with the familiarity and comfort of recognizable characters, and subsequently inserts subtle messages into the general tapestry of this pieces.
