在《士師記》中，“Shibboleth”這個詞曾決定生與死——一種通過發音來判斷歸屬或背叛的語言測試。隨著時間的推移，它的意義擴展為任何能夠區分圈內人與圈外人的符號，無論是言語的，還是無聲的。中文標題 㗊（jí，ㄐㄧˊ），意指"眾口"，喚起當代世界中聲音、觀點與身份的喧囂碰撞。

如今，這樣的"暗號"早已不只是地理上的邊界，而是滲入語言、習俗與日常生活的無形界限。政治口號、口音、服飾與文化習慣，皆可能成為微妙的關卡，加固"我們"與"他們"的二元對立。

本次展覽匯聚四位藝術家的創作——或以語言，物件、肖像，抑或個人記憶——穿行於這些無形的邊界，讓諸多聲音交織，形成一個空間，在這裡，差異既不被抹去，也不被武器化。這個空間成為跨越界限的傾聽之處，邀請觀者在連結與分隔的張力中停留。《Shibboleth（㗊）》發問：我們能否跨越排斥的暗號，在言語背後共同的呼吸中相遇？

Then they took him, and slew him at the passages of Jordan: and there fell at that time of the Ephraimites forty and two thousand.” — Judges 12:5–6

In the Book of Judges, “Shibboleth” was a word that determined who lived and who died—a linguistic test that marked belonging or betrayal. Over time, it has come to mean any sign, spoken or unspoken, that divides insiders from outsiders. The Chinese title, 㗊（jí，ㄐㄧˊ）, literally “many mouths,” evokes the noisy collision of voices, perspectives, and identities in the contemporary world. Today, such shibboleths are not only borders on maps but boundaries woven into speech, customs, and daily life. Political slogans, accents, dress, and cultural habits become subtle checkpoints, reinforcing the logic of "us" versus "them".

This exhibition gathers four artists whose works navigate these invisible thresholds—some through language, some through objects, portraits, or personal memory. Together, their voices create a polyphonic space where difference is neither erased nor weaponized. Here, the gallery becomes a site to listen across boundaries, to dwell in the tensions between connection and separation. Shibboleth (㗊) asks: Can we move beyond the passwords of exclusion, and learn to meet one another in the shared breath behind the words?
