Artist YANG Shun-Fa is a native of Shanhua District, Tainan City, and is currently a blue-collar worker at China Steel Corporation. His works have been exhibited abroad in the United States, France, Hong Kong, Kosovo, Northern Ireland, and other countries. He has won the 2018 Kaohsiung Award and the 2022 Taipei West District Rotary Club's "Taiwan Cultural Award". His works are also in the collections of major museums in Taiwan and abroad.

Yang Shun-fa has been working in photography for nearly 40 years, always turning his lens outward, using social observation and Taiwanese land as his creative themes, such as "Kaohsiung Project" or "Island Project". In order to create and return to my hometown to farm, indulged in the adventure of water and soil in the Zengwun River. Like a "wild child" who broke free from constraints and frameworks.

Yang Shun-fa used the calotype process invented by Talbot in 1841 to make he’s own negative paper film to challenge the uncontrollability of the technology and present unpredictable fiber patterns. In creations, he’s used to applying all kinds of props and arranging all kinds of characters to create the stage between the reality and the illusion.

This time, Artist will turn he’s lens inward to face he’s hometown, he’s family, and he’s own inner world. The connection with hometown feelings has become the nourishment of life. It is his story, and it also belongs to the story of the people who grew up here.

In this family drama, he mended the gaps in time, warmed up emotions, and also went on a family roots journey. This is not only a journey to the source of the Zengwun River, a journey to the source of his personal life, but also a journey to the source of photography history. Through a series of works, he hope to give people a chance to rethink these years of loss and gain in the Zengwen River basin and agricultural human landscape. Urbanization brings prosperity, but it also accelerates the loss of his memories. Hometown gives us life, and what do we want to leave for this land?
