作品敘述
閱讀文學及藝術史一直是趙祐瑋的興趣。此次在台北藝博展出的作品，絕大部分的形象來源也都來自他平時閱讀的古典傳說、畫作或是文學作品，透過閱讀所得，在心中想像轉化，潤飾而成。
在象徵主義或是浮世繪作品裡，許多作品都以古典文學為素材，這引起了趙祐瑋的濃厚興趣，繼而開始閱覽這些文學作品，從而興起了若能將相同的題材，改用卡漫方式來表現，或許能產生有別於古的趣味的想法。
本次展覽中所選擇的內容主要以古畫中的一些經典名作為主題，以卡漫的風格，在其中加入趙祐瑋最擅長的人物仕女，以當代的情懷賦予古畫一種新的情境與連結。媒材方面，也搭配畫面主題，盡量選用與題材故事相同時代，或是能烘托故事主題的紋樣，透過附有裝飾性的花紋與媒材自身的材質效果，達到華麗精巧的畫面，走出當代膠彩的新風貌。
Reading literature and art history has always been You-Wei Zhao's interest. Most of the image of his works exhibited at the Art Taipei sources from the classical legends, paintings or literary works that he usually reads. Through readings, he transforms these images with his imagination and refines them.
In symbolism or Ukiyo-e art, many works are inspired by classical literature. This aroused strong interest of You-Wei Zhao to read these literary works, and therefore gave him an idea to express the same motif in cartoon way. He thinks this practice may generate new interests that rejuvenate these old stories.
The selected content of his paintings in this exhibition is mainly based on some famous classic ancient paintings. In the style of cartoon, You-Wei Zhao adds figures of lady that he is most skilled in, giving original compositions of the ancient paintings a new context and connection with contemporary time.
In terms of media, he also tries to match the theme of the work by choosing pattern from the same era of the theme story, or the pattern that can highlight the theme of the story. Through the decorative pattern and the material effect of the media itself, he achieves a gorgeous and exquisite status in his creation, which shows a new possibility of contemporary eastern gouache painting.
