Glittering elegance
Lin Tzong Shien 1965-
Artist Lin Zongxian was inspired by the butterfly paintings of Taiwan's early handicrafts and created the "Blessing Beasts" series in which butterflies are composed of animals. Butterfly is a homophone for blessing, and beast is for longevity. This amplifies the cultural characteristics of Taiwanese people who love homophony, and condenses it with the seemingly thin butterfly. Together, they become vibrant animals. The small individuals form a powerful force, symbolizing the perseverance and agility of all things, and metaphorizing the fragility and tenacity of life. Use light and fast brushstrokes to capture the beautiful moment of butterfly flying. The background uses the flow of paint to contain the randomness and imagination of abstract art. The technique easily shuttles between realism and abstraction. The form allows tradition and contemporary coexistence, with a strong decorative style. The color used is influenced by Taiwanese temples. The artist believes that he can still maintain his own cultural attitude while innovating art. In the brushstrokes, the boundaries between realism and abstraction, East and West, tradition and contemporary are blurred, creating a new painting that belongs to Taiwan.
