中文有一個成語「虛懷若谷」，意指胸懷像山谷那樣深而且寬廣，形容十分謙虛。本件作品則取成語前面兩字「虛懷」，「虛」意指空、無、僞、假，「懷」意指胸懷、懷抱、想念。以「虛懷」二字為題，將無法言喻的情感轉換為視覺作品，一個圓形的洞，直直的通過身軀，將虛懷二字可能包含的情感，以看似直接卻不合邏輯的方式呈現。

The Chinese idiom, “xu-huai-ruo-gu” which means having a mind as open and vast as a valley, is often used to describe modesty and humbleness. This artwork is named after the first two words of the idiom “xu-huai”, with “xu” meaning “hollow, lacking, false, fake”, and “huai” meaning “open hearted, embracing, longing”. The title expresses a process where an abstract emotion is transformed into a visual artwork. A circular hole tunnels through the body, channeling the emotions behind “xu-huai” in a way that seems direct, but that eventually defies logic.
