Relaxing on the sofa is a tiger with eyes glittering with wisdom, its vision locking into the viewer's gaze, inspiring boundless reflection. The protanopia of the tiger’s prey allows the orange tiger to camouflage in the forest, giving it the advantage to pounce. However, the camouflage in the image is fading, and the plants on the forefront form a sharp contrast with the Gongbi flowers in the background, conveying its disconnection with nature, which also reflects how nature has become imbalanced due to the over-development of human beings. For Yoshuya Hakuta, portraying animals is more than an act of life drawing, but it also reflects the self and others; therefore, the works have the duo quality of being self-portraits and portrayals of social observation. As the main character in the painting repeatedly shifts its position, the artist also inspects the differences and similarities between the varying positions, providing a chance for viewers to reflect and contemplate.
