生之慾──蕭耀的藝術之旅（策展人引言）

蕭耀（1956-2019），一位充滿熱忱和行動力的藝術工作者，63歲的生命，完全獻給了藝術；前半生，為藝術家服務，後半生，自己成了藝術家。這是一個見證生命豐美、原真、熱誠與理性交織的展覽。

他是台北首都藝術中心的創辦人，也曾是中華民國畫廊協會理事長，擔任過台北國際藝術博覽會總召集人，也是台灣藝術文創最早的推動者之一，他將劉其偉的藝術化為大眾都可以擁有的生活日常。新世紀之後，他投身藝術創作，一圓年少時期的夢想。

強烈的爆發力，在生命的最後12年，留下大量的創作，本展計分四個子題：《文字》系列、《童話》系列、《風景》系列、《原慾》系列，一窺這位藝術家的內心世界。

而不同於一般藝術家的，蕭耀也是一位傑出的藝術行政工作者，他為台灣的藝術產業奠定了堅實的基礎，既顧及一般大眾的藝術認知，也用心於國際市場的開發與推動。本展的第二部份，以中島式的大年表，搭配相關的文獻史料，展現這位傑出藝術行政工作者一生的作為與貢獻。

蕭耀的藝術之旅，看似短暫，卻充滿爆發力；他的生命，散發著理性與感性的交融，他是成功的企業經營者、藝術的愛好者、純真的創作者，更是一位令人懷念、留下美好印記的生命實踐者。

他，值得您的認識與肯定。他叫蕭耀。

York Hsiao (1956-2019) is a passionate and active art practitioner. His 63 years of life had been completely dedicated to art; in the first half of his life, he served the artists, and in the latter half of his life, he naturally became an artist. This is an exhibition that witnesses the abundance, authenticity, enthusiasm and reason of life.

He is the founder of the Capital Art Center in Taipei. He used to be the chairman of the Taiwan Art Gallery Association and the organizer of the Art Taipei. He was also one of the earliest promoters of art and cultural creation in Taiwan that turned Max Liu's art into artworks that everyone could have in their daily life. After the new century, he devoted himself to artistic creation, fulfilling his childhood dreams.

With strong determination and will, he left a large number of artworks in the last 12 years of his life. This exhibition is divided into four sub-themes, presenting the series of “Chinese Characters”, “Fairy Tales”, “Landscapes” and “Primitive Desires”, shedding light on the inner world of the artist.

Unlike the general artists, York Hsiao is also an outstanding art administrator. He had laid a solid foundation for Taiwan's art industry, not only taking into account the general public's art awareness but also focusing on the development and promotion of the international market. In the second section of this exhibition, a chronology is presented in the middle of the gallery with relevant documents and historical materials, showing the life of this distinguished art administrator.

York Hsiao’s art journey may seem short but it’s full of energy; his life reveals a blend of rationality and sensibility. He is a successful business manager, an art enthusiast, and an ingenious creator. Moreover, he is a practitioner of life to be memorable who made a lot of contributions to the art field.
He deserves your recognition and affirmation. His name is York Hsiao.
