由台北歌德學院和台北當代藝術中心聯合邀請，此場講座將介紹Oliver Klimpel的設計工作以及書本設計觀念之方法學，並探索展示他作品選集中對於挑戰和取悅敘事結構和書本設計的批判向度。有別於一般市場驅力或純粹拜物主義性的書本設計取向，他將設計視為一種「文化工作」：展開回應與介入的一種實踐方式。他的作品包括為著名的藝術出版社的書本設計，例：STEIDL（德）、Tate Publishing （英）、Walther König Books（德）、Spector（德），也為許多藝術家進行設計，包括近日為楊俊所設計的一系列個人專輯（Jovis, 2015）。

Oliver Klimpel出生於東德德勒斯登，從倫敦皇家藝術學院畢業後，旅居倫敦多年，設立Büro International London工作室，近日主要駐於柏林。工作著力於觀念性的平面設計、藝術實踐、文字生產和教育之間的互感地帶。他曾為多所文化單位進行展覽設計、出版和識別系統設計工作，包括：Tate Modern、Tate Britain、 Whitechapel Gallery、Museum Folkwang Essen等，在多所國際學校任教，包括倫敦中央聖馬丁藝術與設計學院等，目前於德國萊比錫視覺藝術學院擔任教授。

Co-organized by Goethe-Institut Taipei and Taipei Contemporary Art Center, the lecture introduces the methodology of book conception and practice of Oliver Klimpel and explores, showcasing a selection of his projects, challenging and entertaining narrative structures and critical aspects of book-design. A side-way look at books beyond marketing-driven decisions, or mere fetish-qualities of books, but with the perspective of design as “Kulturarbeit”: a practice of reflection and intervention.His works include books for renowned arts publishers i.e. STEIDL (DE), Tate Publishing (UK), Walther König Books (DE), Spector (DE) and many artists, most recently a set of books for Taiwan-based artist Jun Yang (Jovis, 2015).

Following many years of practice in London and now mostly Berlin-based, Oliver Klimpel works at the junction between conceptual graphic design, artistic practice, text production and education. Born in Dresden, East-Germany, he set up his own studio Büro International London, after graduating from the Royal College of Art London, and worked on many projects mostly in the cultural sector, including Tate Modern, Tate Britain, Whitechapel Gallery, Museum Folkwang Essen and other arts venues, on exhibition designs, publications and visual identities. He has taught and lectured widely, at Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design London and other international art colleges. From 2008 to 2015 he held a professorship at the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig, Germany.
