鄭月妹, 曾任美國芬蘭大學藝術學院、東海大學美術系、逢甲大學建築學院專任教授。在台求學期間受業於水墨名家江兆申、吳學讓、歐豪年、黃磊生、李大木、楚戈和李義弘等。1991年負笈美國接受西方當代藝術薰陶,不僅在畫風及思維上產生變化,更將創作擴及於各種複合媒材以及數位科技等,其作品呈現多元而豐富的跨文化當代視野,曾受邀在紐約、芝加哥、舊金山、巴黎、里昂、京都、北京及台北等地舉辦過20餘次個展,並在2012年獲選入美國中西部100名畫家《100 Artists of the Midwest 》書中。她的水墨創作融會貫通中西繪畫理論,抽象、幾何、潑墨等形式元素架構而成的自然山水,包含著她對歷史、自我、生命、環境、性別等的複雜認同,促使其創作為台灣水墨畫發展,找到一條通往當代社會更為開闊的當代化之路。
Yueh-mei Cheng has been a full-time art professor in the International School of Art & Design at Finlandia University in the United States, the Department of Fine Arts at Tunghai University and the School of Architecture at Feng Chia University in Taiwan.She has been trained under the renowned masters Chiang Chao-shen, Wu Hsueh-jong, Ou Hao-nien, Huang Lei-sheng, Li Ta-mu, Chu Ke, Li Yi-hung and others. In 1991, she went to the United States to receive nurture and training in Western contemporary art. Since then, she not only has continued to change her thinking and style , but also created art with a variety of media and digital technology. Her work presents a diverse, rich, cross-culturally contemporary vision.
She has held more than 20 solo exhibitions in New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Paris, Lyon, Kyoto, Beijing and Taipei. Her artwork has been selected and published in the book titled “100 Artists of the Midwest” in the United States.
Cheng’s brush-painting creations integrate Chinese and Western painting theories. Using abstract, geometric, splashed-ink and personal artistic language, she portrays natural landscape in a magical, dream-like atmosphere. The paintings embody her complex understanding of life, history, environment, identity, gender, etc. Her art enhances the development of brush painting in Taiwan, and unfolds a wider new path to contemporary society.
