ARTISTS STATEMENT
CHU Shu-Chi, born in Taiwan. In 2014, he won the Young Art Award at the Young Art Taipei. He has been invited to exhibit in Beijing, China, Guangzhou, China, Australia, Japan, and Seoul, South Korea.
-
In an era when various art forms flourish, CHU Shu-Chi has always been fond of realistic painting. As for the simple matter of realistically depicting the scene, CHU Shu-Chi has accomplished a presentation that is so realistic that it is almost indistinguishable from the real thing, or even more realistic than the real thing. CHU Shu-Chi’s classical oil paintings, which appear to be realistic depictions of plants, animals, and insects, actually reveal scenes of violent conflict. Therefore, in addition to realistic depiction, shaping a picture through “making the fake real" is his main concern.
-
CHU Shu-Chi hopes to bring viewers a special visual expression and atmosphere through delicate depiction techniques, a “real existence" processed by the artist.
-
CREATIVE CONCEPT
CHU Shu-Chi’s creative vocabulary clearly displays the duality of conflict, relativity, strength, and weakness. Dualism, the concept of dual coexistence, was proposed by the Greek philosopher Plato, who believed that there are two worlds in human existence: the rational world where the soul lives, and the real world where the body lives. It is believed that the world touched by the physical senses is “not the real world", and only the world where the soul lives in the “real world". Therefore, the world of the senses is only a shadow of the world of the soul. A broader concept further extended from “dualism" is “duality". The modern Polish aesthetician Wladyslaw Tatarkiewicz. In his three-volume History of Aesthetics Most of the space in the “Introduction" is devoted to discussing various dualities in the history of aesthetics. Almost as long as two things can be compared, duality can be used as a broad conceptual comparison. The work “King and Hallow" on display at this art fair how, as a human being, to become a king and achieve hegemony, one must often step on flesh and blood of many people, whether through force, intelligence, or although one may be cunning and treacherous, to become a saint and leave a good reputation for generations to come, one can only rely on self-cultivation and teaching by words and deeds to win people over with virtue. The courage of “The Ignorant Show" and “Woozle Effect". After searching through many materials, it is strange that there are very few positive words or idioms and poems about frogs, toads, and other creatures, and there are many derogatory and contemptuous contents, but this is exactly what we want to criticize as human beings. In today’s era of rapid information dissemination and mixed true and false news, the influence of the herd effect often hears someone making outrageous remarks on the Internet. A wave of waves is spreading across the country, with no boundaries. Who is the frog in the well and who is the wise man? Only time will tell when the wave recedes.
