信仰的暴力 The Violence of Faith

  • 黃麟詠新作《信仰的暴力》引用波堤且利Sandro Botticelli的作品《書中的聖母瑪麗亞》,畫面的右半邊可見到聖母帶著聖子來到電子遊樂場玩遊戲機,透過後天的行為與活動塑造價值觀,因為價值觀是在生活與行為中建立的。格鬥角色中一位是使用物理攻擊的威爾史密斯Will Smith,另位與言語攻擊的克里斯洛克Chris Rock。藉由奥斯卡頒獎典禮的事件呈現,價值觀的對抗。作品透過不同價值系統與主張的並置處理,傳遞在穿越古今的圖像交流外,也相映著後現代(postmodernism)視野,一種線性史觀(linear history) 與線性敘事的取消。如今各種主義與價值系統,並無本質上的高低針鋒相對,而是它們代表著是要以溝通對話為出發的個體背景認識模式。

    黃麟詠認為:「因為價值觀是在生活與行為中建立的。」、「信仰與價值觀都是後天形成的。」,她透過符號的辯證,凸顯今日社會中人們的思考模式與價值判定,總是由某種共同集成的意識與討論來產生立論基礎,而藝術家面對歷史與經典,也思考著人們對它們產生的固有印象,以及它們圖像生產的歷史背景、意識背景。

    Huang Lin-Yung’s new work “The Violence of Faith” references Sandro Botticelli’s Madonna of the Book. The right side of the picture shows the Virgin Mary bringing the infant Jesus to an amusement arcade, shaping values after birth through behavior and activities since values are established through life and conduct. The characters in the fight are Will Smith, who uses physical attack, and Chris Rock, who resorts to verbal aggression. The work uses the incident at the Academy Award ceremony to present the conflict of values. By juxtaposing different value systems and claims, the work not only features the dialogue between past and present through images but also reflects a postmodern perspective and the canceling of linear history and linear narrative. Today, varying doctrines and value systems are not fundamentally different or contradicting but represent individual background knowledge that should be based on exchanging ideas.

    Huang Lin-Yung believes “Value systems are established through life and behavior” and “Belief and values are acquired.” Through the dialectical of symbols, Huang stresses how the thoughts and value systems of the people of today’s society are always rooted in some collective consciousness and discussion. The artist also contemplates people’s impressions of history and classic works, as well as the historical and conscious background of the images.
