While we reach out beyond borders to explore a different kind of landscape against the current backdrop of contemporary art, we find the treasure of art that expresses the spirit of our time, hidden in the “Land of Thunder Dragon,” Bhutan.
Tansbao BhutanArt Gallery was founded by Ms. Jill Lu, the former anchor and show host at the news station of Unique Satellite TV Network, in June, 2018. In a trip to Bhutan covering news story, Ms. Lu had a chance to appreciate Bhutan’s contemporary art and was genuinely touched by its form of creativity and profound cultural heritage, aiming at promoting Bhutan’s contemporary art so as to lay down an alternative point of view for Asia’s contemporary art.
Tansbao represents quite a few Bhutanese modern artists who individually have their own unique styles, one of whom is Asha Kama, the pioneer and torchbearer of the contemporary art of Bhutan. Others include emerging artists full of great potential, such as Pema Tshering (TintinDorjee), Gyempo Wangchuk, Pema Gyeltshen, S. BishwaⅡ, and Tshering Wangchuk, and more.
Tansbao strives for promoting Bhutan’s contemporary art and commits to exploring the international art market. In addition to curating art exhibitions, we actively participate in international art expositions and biennials so that our artists can be widely known and further collected by museums, private enterprises and renowned collectors from home and abroad. Going forward, we expect to see this hidden treasure of Bhutan – its contemporary art – would catch the eye of art lovers around the globe and become a distinguishing Asian feature appreciated by many. We also hope we will be able to reach out to and establish exchanges with more art lovers so that we can share the diverse perspectives of the contemporary art.
