2022 Shin Leh Yuan: The 3rd Media Image Exhibition
    Exhibition title: Life on Video
    Curator: Yi-Ju Chen
    Artists: Ting-Yi Lee, Hsin-Ying Lee / Ming-Chieh Lee, Mu Tuan, Tai-Yun Chang

The post-pandemic era of everyday life is upon us, and while the physical body is restricted, the digital world is thriving against the odds. Video lectures, working from home, online performances, the “screen” has become a temporary refuge and blocking device for viruses between people. The "images" that it packs within silently replace all sorts of real connections, in the name of pandemic prevention. They are omnipresent, and are transposed from private sphere to public platforms via the web. Where the images are, people exist? The pandemic has sustained the proxy status of images, and through social networking sites and mobile phone applications, people are constructing and reconstructing their bodies, interweaving life and social connections in a cyber space that is now indistinguishable from reality.

The format of art exhibitions has become significantly digitalized, with a proliferation of augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), online exhibitions, and web-based works that are accessible directly by the public. At the same time, works focusing on live presentation are attempting to make transient appearance during this temporary lull of the plague, for small-scale communications. However, we must ultimately face the fact that in this era of exploding images, where do we fit in as "human beings"? And how does the physical interaction, which people rely on to construct emotional and social relationships, translate into a world of images with drastically different logic?
"Life on Video" will focus on the postures of immersion, extension, confrontation, absence and reflection as generated by human beings in the context of media images. From the interpretation of "life" as the starting point, we will explore the body, identity, life and living, and what constitutes the relationship between them and the "images".
