紅尾黑鳳頭鸚鵡 – 學名Calyptorhynchus banksia, 原生分布在澳洲北部和西部，屬大型群居鳥類。生性自由, 不易人工繁殖，籠養也困難。主要以植物種子為食，也會食用水果、堅果、花朵、昆蟲。體長約50 – 68公分不等，壽命可達50年以上.
命名來自於其公鳥尾部的一片鮮紅色羽毛，雌性的尾部為橘黃色羽毛，喙偏白，不同於雄鳥的黑色喙。本作的主角是公鳥, 所以有著黑色喙. 雖然此鳥尚未被歸為瀕臨絕種的保育鳥類,但整體數量減少中.
Red Tail Black Cockatoo在澳洲當地人心目中有著特殊意義. 如果在野外見到它, 都是極其幸運的事. 黑鳳頭鸚鵡有著「至高的力量」, 「自信沉著」, 與「快樂 」的靈性意義.
在澳洲原住民中還有著這樣的說法 – 黑鸚鵡代表大靈的引導 - 強壯自身的靈魂與精神.

This artwork was inspired by my visit to the Ballarat Bird World. I spent a wonderful day observing this precious friend – a Red Tail Black Cockatoo, one of my favourite Australian Native Birds.

Male Red Tail Black Cockatoo is normally jet black and has a band of bright red in the tail and a dark grey beak. Female Black Cockatoo has yellow speckles on the head and breast, yellow patches on the tail, and feathers in duller black and whitish beak.
.
There’s also a saying that black cockatoo stands for the energy of empowerment, happiness and contentment. The power of spirit comes into our lives, strengthening our own spirit and soul.
