Tshewang Tenzin-Artist Statement
As a member of the third generation of Thangka painters following the patrilineal tradition, I find myself falling into a rich legacy. My journey has been shaped by the footsteps of my father, a skilled Lhadripa (Thangka Painter), and enriched by my interactions with master traditional artists. It was within these influences that I discovered my true calling.
After studying at the National Institute for Zorig Chusum, I dedicated 21 years to teaching there. A meeting with the contemporary master artist, Asha Kama, ignited my venture into modern art, blending tradition with change. Every stroke reflects my introspection, guiding students and viewers in their own paths. My art mirrors mindfulness, revealing my essence—a journey that brings focus and peace in the midst of life's distraction.

EXPERIENCE
2016 - Present|Art United|FOUNDER AND CEO
The establishment of Art United emerged in response to the unique challenges faced by traditional artists in Bhutan. Despite a thriving global art scene, these artists remain confined to conventional commissioned works, limiting their creative expression and potential for innovation. Recognizing this gap and in alignment with the Bhutanese government's commitment to preserving traditional art, Art United was established. It provides a collaborative space where traditional artists can flourish by uniting and fostering a dialogue between the realms of tradition and contemporary influences. Art United aims to empower artists and propel Bhutan's artistic heritage onto the global stage.
