    He is a globally acclaimed pop art artist and one of the representatives of the second generation of Japanese contemporary art,

    whose works are in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles.

    He is known for his paintings featuring girls with glaring eyes and dogs.

    Born in Aomori Prefecture in 1959

    1981 Entered Aichi Prefectural University of Arts, Faculty of Fine Arts, majoring in oil painting (graduated in 1985)

    1987 Completed master's program at the same university

    1988 Entered the German National Academy of Arts Düsseldorf (Kunstakademi Düsseldorf) and studied under A. R. Penck.

    1993 Obtained Meister Schurer and completed the academy.

    1994-2000 Production activities in Germany

    1998 Worked as a visiting professor at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) for 3 months with Takashi Murakami

    1995 Received Nagoya City Art Encouragement Award

    2000 Return to Japan

    2006 Appointed as a visiting professor at Musashino Art University

    2010 New York International Center Award Winner

    2013 Received the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award for Art Encouragement
