Guru Rinpoche, the second Buddha, is the most prominent being in Bhutanese Buddhism after the Buddha himself. He was a saint who traveled to Bhutan and performed many miracles, gave many teachings and changed many lives. His presence and force can be felt all over Bhutan, in rock imprints, in temples, and in our history. One of his most famous stories is that of when he flew on a tigress to a rock cliff and mediated. This rock cliff has become Takstang (the Tigers Nest) or the most known temple of our country. It is believed that Guru Rinpoche has 8 manifestations, and one of the most wrathful is that of Guru Dorji Drolo, who also rides a tiger and is often depicted with fire.
