藝術活動是人類精神領域中最優質的一個層次,它同時是一個國家民族文化成就最具體的表現。藝術家曾經是宗教和政治的工具。然而,時至今日,已然成為個人意識的主宰。不但知道自己關心什麼?表現什麼?更以鍥而不捨的精神,竭力尋求改善社會的契機。

今年「桃園美術家邀請展」共分西畫類、複合媒材與應用設計類、雕塑工藝類及攝影類等四項。以桃園在地與相關的藝術家作為邀請展出的對象,作品內容包括具象寫實、抽象表現等各類風格兼具,提供了創作者藝術交流,觀摩切磋的機會。

油畫類作品,寫實與寫意兼備,內容與形式生動地刻劃出生命衍化蛻變的諸般法則。藝術家刻苦銘心的真實生活體驗,孕育生命輪轉軌跡,崇高的精神意象闡釋出人性的終極關懷。雕塑類的作品概括多樣材質的運用表現,有石雕、木雕、金屬焊接、鑄造、陶藝、玻璃創作、皮雕、金雕、手捏土等種類繁多。每件作品的完成必須要有強烈的創作熱情及相當長時間的磨練。除了創意發想,更須因材制宜。不論是抽象造形到器皿工藝,充份呈現每位藝術家的手作實力。

複合媒材與應用設計類作品透過不同媒材的多元表現,關注生活周遭的人文、經濟、社會、文化等議題發揮,設計家扮演著運用於生活及反映社會需求的實踐者。數位技術早已充斥現代人們的生活中,已經是無可分割的態勢,這是當代藝術創作者必須面對的工法意圖。攝影類的本質、特性不同於其他藝術創作,除基本的取材、構圖、正常曝光之外,觀念創意的觸角正是呈現完美作品的要件。現代人的生活動靜,不同的人情際遇,新的體驗,新的視野,拍拖出無限寬廣的天地。

創意來自於生活中的感動,美學在此可被詮釋為一種生活美感經驗的抒發,藝術創作者總是選擇詩性的寓居於作品的象徵意涵之中,以作品作為生活體驗的表逹工具。康德說:審美是不帶任何利害而愉快的,這種不帶利害而又讓人愉快的對象就是美。即使是稀鬆平常的日常事件,皆可因藝術的啟發而變得更豐富多彩;美往往現身於你意想不到的地方;美是我們得以親自發現、創造而後徹底改造的東西。

Art activity is the premium level in the spiritual world of mankind. It is also the most vivid incarnation of the cultural achievements by a nation. Artists used to be the tool for religion and politics. Nonetheless, they are the masters of their own consciousness nowadays. They not only are aware of what they care about and display, but work hard in the quest for the opportunity to improve the society with a spirit that never gives up.

The "Taoyuan Artists Invitational Exhibition" this year presents in four categories, West Painting, Mixed Media and Applied Design, Sculpture and Crafts, and Photography. Artists local or related to Taoyuan are invited to the exhibition to showcase works in various styles like figurative, realistic or abstract, so as to offer artists a chance to engage and exchange over art.

In oil paintings that could be realistic and abstract, the content as well as the form vividly depicts the laws for the evolution of life. The authentic life experiences of artists yield the traces of the cycle of life as their sublime, spiritual imageries exemplify the ultimate concern of humanity. In the category of Sculpture, diverse materials are employed to produce works in stone, wood, metal welding, casting, ceramics, glass, leather, gold, and modeling clay. The completion of each work requires intense passion in art creation and long-term labor. Apart from creativity, the creation of artwork is subjected to the nature of the material employed as well. Be that abstract form or utensil crafts, each and every work is the embodiment of an artist’s prowess in craftsmanship.

The works in Mixed Media and Applied Design category are produced through various materials with focuses on the issues of history, economy, society and culture. These designers are empirical practitioners that reflect the needs in the society. The digital technology seeping into all corners of modern life is an inevitable force the contemporary artists have to confront when it comes to techniques and intents in practice. The nature and features of Photography set itself apart from other creative practices. Besides the basics like topic selection, composition, and normalized exposure, the touch of conceptual creativity is the very ingredient to a perfect work of photography. The pulse of modern life, the unique encounters, the novel experience as well as the new perspectives are taken into the limitless boundary of frames.

Creativity is derived from the perceptions in life, where aesthetics may be interpreted as an expression of beauty in life experience. Artists invariably dwell in the poetic metaphors and connotation of works, using works as their tool to articulate their life experiences. “They are disinterested, meaning that we take pleasure in something because we judge it beautiful, rather than judging it beautiful because we find it pleasurable,” said Kant. Everything could turn into something richer and more colorful via the inspiration of art, even for mundane incidents in life. Beauty oftentimes reveals itself in places unexpected; beauty is something we can uncover, create and transform entirely on our own.
