Hyper Wave is now accepting applications from artists, curators, and researchers from Taiwan and abroad for its artist residency program. The residency will take place from March 1 to October 28, 2026, with each selected participant engaging in an eight-week residency at Surfy Space in Luodong, Yilan. Applications are open now, with a deadline of Sunday, April 13, 2025, at 11:59:59 PM Taipei Time.

Founded in 2022 by the Hyper Wave team, Surfy Space is located in the heart of Luodong, Yilan, close to Luodong Night Market and the train station. Situated at the intersection of culture and commerce, this two-story townhouse is specifically designed as a living and creative space for artists. The ground floor features a workspace and studio area at the front, along with a private bedroom at the back. The second floor includes a living room, kitchen, bathroom, and an additional private bedroom. The rooftop provides an outdoor workspace suitable for material experimentation and projects involving heavier or messier processes.

The residency program serves not only as a base for artistic creation but also as a platform for international artistic exchange. We welcome artists, curators, and cultural practitioners from around the world, establishing Luodong as a global hub for artistic collaboration and cultural dialogue. Additionally, the Hyper Wave-managed Zhongshan Institute of Techno-Art in Taipei offers residency artists a venue for exhibitions and exchanges, bridging Yilan’s creative environment with urban cultural resources to enrich artistic discussions and practices.

Applications must be submitted online and should include a bilingual (Chinese and English) CV, a residency proposal, and a portfolio. Selected artists will receive support including round-trip travel subsidies and a daily living stipend of NT$500.

The selection process will be conducted through an open call, with a jury of 2-3 professionals from the arts and cultural sectors evaluating applications based on project proposals. The final selection results will be announced in early May 2025.

During the residency, artists will have the opportunity to present their work in Luodong or Taipei through exhibitions, talks, performances, or any other chosen formats, allowing their creations to engage with a broader audience.
