鄭瓊娟於一九三一年出生在新竹的醫生家庭。新竹女中畢業後考上國立師範大學美術系，師事朱德群、李石樵、廖繼春等前輩畫家。畢業後至新莊中學教書，同時入選第十一屆省展，更被廖繼春點名成了五月畫會創始成員。

五月畫會是台灣畫家劉國松在1957年與台灣師範大學美術系校友一同組成的畫家協會，也是台灣藝術史上重要的畫會之一。在1960年代，以大膽的畫風、主張自由的繪畫題材、概念、繪畫方式等成為台灣現代繪畫的前衛團體。

鄭瓊娟的作品有相當豐富但游移的面貌，大都以抽象或半具象呈現，當然也有具象的作品，但是她在顏色上多以主觀感情賦予生命，不是自然的模仿。由她的繪畫方式可以理解，她是以思想、感情為創作動機，她自己稱為心象畫，不是完全抽象，也不脫離具象，所以面貌有變化，但用色用筆肌理有共通性，而形成風格。

從自然中擷取靈感，鄭瓊娟她慣用強烈對比的顏色，奔放自由，作品充滿朝氣，有生機的黃色，自由的藍色，火熱的紅色，富貴的金色，神秘大方高貴的黑色，是她畫作常用的主色。她的畫作散發出旺盛的生命力，每一件作品，皆象徵在困境中力求生存的堅強意志。她奔放的色彩，正宣洩曾被壓抑的熱情，強烈的紅、黃、黑、與金色，有如火燄，漩渦，流動的雲，澎湃的水，無不動感十足。

Cheng Chung-Chuan was born in 1931 into a doctor's family in Hsinchu, Taiwan. After graduating from Hsinchu Girls' High School, she was admitted to the Fine Arts Department of National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU), where she studied under senior painters such as Chu Teh-Chun, Li Shih-Chiao, and Liao Chi-Chun. After graduation, she taught at Xinzhuang High School while being selected for the 11th Taiwan Provincial Art Exhibition. She was also named by Liao Chi-Chun as a founding member of the Fifth Moon Art Group.

The Fifth Moon Art Group was established in 1957 by Taiwanese artist Liu Kuo-Sung and alumni of the NTNU Fine Arts Department. It is one of the most significant art groups in Taiwanese art history. The association played a pivotal role in shifting Taiwanese art from classical, conservative still-life styles to modern art forms. In the 1960s, it became an avant-garde group advocating bold painting styles, freedom in subjects, concepts, and techniques, thus shaping the development of modern painting in Taiwan.

Cheng Chung-Chuan’s works exhibit a rich and varied style. With numerous ideas she wished to express, her pieces often lean towards abstraction or semi-abstraction, though she has also produced figurative works. Her use of color is characterized by subjective emotional expression rather than natural imitation. Her painting style reflects her creative motivation, driven by thought and emotion. She described her work as "mindscape painting": not fully abstract yet not entirely detached from figurative forms. While her style varies, her use of color, brushwork, and textures conveys a unified aesthetic.

Drawing inspiration from nature, Cheng Chung-Chuan favored vivid, contrasting colors. Her work is bold and free-spirited, brimming with vitality. Dominant hues in her paintings include the vibrant yellow of life, the liberating blue, the fiery red, the opulent gold, and the mysterious yet elegant black. Her artwork exudes a robust life force, with each piece symbolizing a resilient will to survive in adversity. Her vibrant palette conveys a release of repressed passion—her bold reds, yellows, blacks, and golds resemble flames, whirlpools, flowing clouds, and surging water, all pulsating with dynamic energy.
