蔡尉成 Tsai Wei-Cheng (1971~)
蔡尉成現居並工作於台中,自大甲高中美工科畢業後師承謝棟樑,2017年受邀參展於世界三大藝術展的威尼斯雙年展,展覽遍及海內外,包括紐約、新加坡、東京、北京等國際藝術博覽會,在台曾獲全國美展優選、大墩美展/牛耳石雕創作大展第一名。作品〈了不起》典藏並展示於澳門摩珀斯(Morpheus)酒店大廳,該酒店為知名女建築師Zaha Hadid代表作,被《時代雜誌》選為「2018年世界最佳景點」之一。
蔡尉成近二十年來引西遊記經典人物孫悟空為母題,以詼諧與內斂兼備的雕塑語言詮釋東方哲理精神,備受國際藝壇所關注。台北國際藝術博覽會現場將展示最新《成相非象》系列作品,「成相非象」指涉一切的現象成相,並非本相現象。藝術家自字海裡拾趣,巧妙將中國文字造型結合書藝的流動意象,配合形、音、意的想像,把文字反推回最初景象,詮釋其真義,引領觀者從中找到解答人生的本相。
Born in Taichung in 1971, Tsai Wei-Cheng graduated from National Ta Chia Senior High School and studied under Hsieh Tung-Liang. Since 1989, the artist’s works have been showcased in New York, Singapore, Tokyo, Beijing, and cities across Taiwan. Tsai’s works have been displayed in New York, Beijing, Singapore, Taipei, and various major cities both domestic and abroad, and was even showcased at the Venice Biennale, the world-renowned stage for international art. Tsai’s It’s Great is collected and displayed at the Morpheus Hotel in Macau, which is a representing work of famous female architect Zaha Hadid and was named by Times Magazine among “World's 100 Greatest Places” in 2018.
Tsai Wei-Cheng has gained international recognition over the past two decades. In these two decades, the concept of his art work is based on the main character“Sun Wu-Kong”from the classic Chinese literature“Journey to the West”. Through a combination of wit and subtlety in his sculptural language, he interprets the profound philosophical spirit of the East. His latest series of works, titled Phenomena Beyond Appearances will be showcased at ART TAIPEI 2023. The phrase Phenomena Beyond Appearances refers to the notion that all phenomena are mere appearances and not the essence. Drawing inspiration from Chinese characters and the fluidity of calligraphy, the artist ingeniously combines form, meaning and pronunciation. By unraveling the original essence of words and providing interpretations, guiding viewers to uncover the profound truths of life.
